Healthy EatingGrape varieties. We have shared along the first and second post, the benefits of eating something that many enjoy in this time of summer season: some delicious grapes. But how many kinds of grapes there? The first major division is two types of grapes, white and red.

According to the Bible, the person who planted the first grapes were Noah and as the story says, it was Columbus who brought grape vines from the “old” to “new” continent, while he spent his trip to Haiti. Let us now do something more about grape varieties.

the term “grape varieties” refers to the types of grapes are grown and maintained as the natural species of grape plants. Who are the main producers? Many countries in Europe and South America, Austria, Mexico are the main grape producing countries in the world.

The grape is a juicy fruit that is found in a wide variety of colors like purple, white, red or green. Anatomically speaking is a type of berry used to eat directly, as for the wines, and even as a nut. But its uses do not end there: the grape is also used for the preparation of jelly, vinegar, sweets, grape seed extract and seed oil and jam.

Beyond that we love to consume directly, the main objective of growing grapes is prepared or obtained its most famous juice: wine.

What are the different grape varieties?

Within the so-called “red”, we list the variety Merlot (cultivated with Cabernet Sauvignon, well suited for Bordeaux wines) Cabernet Sauvignon (small grapes and red grown in Australia and California). Finally, Syrah or Shiraz grapes in Australia. Like other grapes, Syrah grapes are used in making wine tannins. These grapes are found in the Rhone Valley in France.

Some other varieties of red grapes are Lagrein, Rosenmuskateller, Magdalene St., Kalterersee Auslese, Edelvernatch (Schiavo), and Blauburgunder Südtiroler Merlot Rosado.
