Diet rich in calorie foods or lack of exercise

Being overweight is not always the result of a diet rich in calorie foods or lack of exercise. Sometimes this tendency to obesity is due to alterations in the functioning of the metabolism, changes that, in the case of pregnant women can cause spontaneous abortions or congenital malformations.

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of the neck and face, in front of the trachea, and is responsible for regulating metabolism through hormones triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4) and thyrotropin ( TSH).

According to Dr. Antonio Escalante Herrera, an endocrinologist at Specialty Hospital of the Western National Medical Center IMSS, Guadalajara, Jalisco, alterations in the activity of this gland can cause two diseases: hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, which are more frequent women.

The latter, he said, is one in which there is not enough thyroid hormones, so it slows metabolism and causes symptoms such as drowsiness, fatigue, and weakness in addition to lack of sexual desire, abnormal menstruation and fertility problems.
