Thyroid Symptoms and Signs

Thyroid hormone controls the energy used and the growth of cells in the body. In other words, this hormone regulates how the body uses energy and how quickly or slowly cells may grow and duplicate. The thyroid hormone is produced by the thyroid gland which is located just below the larynx.

When the function of thyroid gland is lessened, the body will be unable to produce thyroid hormone sufficiently. This condition is called hypothyroidism. The symptoms of this disease often include a hoarse voice, puffy face, and muscle cramps. Another symptom that may occur is the problem of hemorrhoids. It usually doesn’t cause hemorrhoids directly, though. But hypothyroidism can cause constipation which may lead to hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids are the results of swollen veins in the anus. If they are caused by hypothyroidism, the hemorrhoids cannot be treated. It is the cause that has to be treated. The treatment that is given to those who suffer from hypothyroidism is usually in the form of taking the thyroid hormones to the level of the hormones in the body.

Meanwhile, the pain and the itching of the hemorrhoids can be reduced by applying certain creams that are available in many drug stores. If the hemorrhoids are accompanied by other thyroid symptoms, it is very important to consult a doctor as it may lead to some serious condition such as anemia and even heart failure.
