Vegetarian diet, a healthy option

A well-planned vegetarian diet is a healthy way to satisfy their nutritional needs, while continuing to cultural, religious or ethical.

A vegetarian diet provides the ability to stay healthy by preventing problems such as cardiovascular disease, so whatever your reasons for choosing a vegetarian diet, you must ensure that it meets the daily nutritional needs.

In fact, a well-planned vegetarian diet can meet the needs of people of all ages, including children, adolescents and women who are nursing or pregnant.

The key is being aware of their nutritional needs, but if you are unsure of how to create a vegetarian diet that is right for you, talk to your doctor and a registered dietitian.

Types of vegetarian diets

Vegetarian diets can be classified into three types:

* Vegan diets, which exclude meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products and foods containing these products.
* Lacto-vegetarian diet, which excludes meat, fish, poultry and eggs and foods containing them, allowing dairy products like milk, cheese, yogurt and butter.
* Lacto-ovo vegetarian diet, which excludes meat, fish and poultry, allowing the eggs and dairy products.

However, some people follow a semi-vegetarian diet (flexitarian) which is primarily a plant-based diet, but it includes meat, dairy, eggs, chicken and fish occasionally or in small quantities.
